All shows at 7 p.m. except Sunday at 2 p.m.

Set in the slums ruled by poverty, corrupt business practices, and biased justice, the play focuses on the stories of the working class. The protagonist is Macheath, a gentlemanly young criminal ...  Macheath (Mackie Messer, or Mack the Knife) marries Polly Peachum. This displeases her father, who controls the beggars of London, and he endeavours to have Macheath hanged. But his moves are hindered by the fact that the chief of police, Tiger Brown, is Macheath's childhood friend. Still, Peachum exerts his influence and eventually gets Macheath arrested and sentenced to hang.

The play challenges conventional notions of property as well as those of theatre. It asks the central and highly political question, "Who is the bigger criminal: he who robs a bank or he who founds one?"

Project 104's Ubu Rex
by Alfred Jarry

February 27, 28
March 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14
All shows at 8 p.m. except Sunday shows at 2 p.m.

The Imaginists Theatre Collective's Project 104 presents the Mother of all Modern Theater extravagonzos: UBU REX. First performed in 1896 in a show that was nearly shut down by astonished and outraged audiences, this French travesty of Macbeth excavates the babyish substrates of politics and society. Princes dine on toilet brushes, scream for blood, command vast armies--and run in terror at the fart of a gnat. UBU, like a mirror of truth, stands in exact opposition to the politics of today: everybody says exactly what they mean and shows exactly what's on the end of their fork. The language is rough and exhilarating. The action is as brisk and passionate as a roll in the hay. And after the laughter, the audience nods and sighs. Read the papers: we are living UBU!
